“The Grand Spider” is the central lighting installation for the 2025 Taoyuan Halloween City Festival — one of Taiwan’s largest annual Halloween events.
Designed as both an independent light-art installation and a fully functional performance stage, the structure comes alive every 30 minutes through synchronized lighting, animation, lasers, and narrative music.
With over 1.1 million visitors, the show became a landmark public art experience for the city.
CONCEPT DESCRIPTION
The Grand Spider transforms a 20-meter stage structure into a living creature of light.
Inspired by the idea of “living architecture,” the installation merges structural engineering, lighting choreography, digital animation, and music into one unified storytelling experience.
The show features three original characters — the Pumpkin Fiend, the Zombie Mummy, and the Phantom Cyclops — each guiding the audience through different emotional stages.
These characters introduce a narrative flow that connects families, children, teenagers, and festival crowds, creating a multi-layered experience accessible to every age group.
Every 30 minutes, the spider awakens through synchronized RGB lighting, lasers, X-ray effects, and a cinematic soundtrack.
The climax reveals a massive physical spider emerging from the stage, breaking out of the screens and into real space — a signature moment that defines the entire festival.
